Aston Villa tipped to offload Douglas Luiz after major new development - Agbonlahor
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Aston Villa will bin Douglas Luiz in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed the club will sign one of Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma in the summer as an upgrade on the 23-year-old.
Luiz was axed from the starting XI for the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Saturday (2 April) with Morgan Sanson handed just his third Premier League start of the season.
Luiz will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and Steven Gerrard revealed last Friday (1 April), via Birmingham Live, that there will not be any discussions over a new deal until the end of the season.
“I do like Douglas Luiz,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“But if you want to push into the top-six you do need that defensive midfielder who can break up play, has the range of passing, has the legs. Douglas Luiz is not the player who can get Aston Villa into the top-six.

“If they could get a Kalvin Phillips or a Bissouma, Aston Villa would be a far better team.
“Whenever I watch Luiz he does an OK job but he gives away too many fouls, he doesn’t really get the ball back.
“That’s the position Gerrard will look at.”
Luiz has 12 goal contributions in 105 games across all competitions for Villa.
He signed from Man City in the summer of 2019 after Aston Villa were promoted from the Championship.
