Aston Villa told 'very sizeable bid' needed to sign Joe Gomez this summer after £30m report - pundit

Liverpool would not entertain an offer of £30million for Joe Gomez and it would take a “very sizeable bid” for Aston Villa to land the defender this summer.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about 25-year-old’s future on Merseyside.

Gomez struggled for game time in the 2021-22 campaign.

According to the Daily Star, via the Express (29 June), Aston Villa are in pursuit of the England international and are preparing a £30million bid.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce claimed (3 July) that it would take a big offer for the Reds to consider selling Gomez.

The club hope the player will stay and sign a new contract.

Gomez’s current deal expires at the end of June 2024.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “I think £30million would be light.

“If Villa were to even turn Liverpool’s heads it would have to be a lot more than that.

“Gomez is still a very good age. He has got the majority of his career ahead of him. He has got so much potential still to fulfil.

“Jurgen Klopp must love having him as part of the squad given the quality he provides across all the back four. He will get games at Liverpool.

“It would have to be a very sizeable bid to make Liverpool even consider it. They do not need to sell players. They do not need to move players on.

“I think a player like Gomez would cost a lot to replace. He is very valuable to that squad. There is no value in letting him go for £30million.”
