Monchi has held talks with Kelechi Iheanacho’s camp over a potential move to Aston Villa, sources have told Football Insider

The Villa chief met with the Nigerian international’s representatives in Greece before the club’s Europa League second leg against Olympiakos on Thursday (9 May).

Football Insider revealed Iheanacho has rejected a fresh attempt by Leicester City to extend his current deal, which is set to expire in June this year.

The 27-year-old now looks set to leave the Foxes on a free after helping them claim the Championship title this season.

Villa are keen to sign another forward option as a backup to star striker Ollie Watkins, with Jhon Duran currently performing that role.

Aston Villa could sign Kelechi Ineahacho on free transfer

It’s been a frustrating season for Iheanacho at Leicester after he decided to remain at the club last summer to help them earn promotion.

While that goal has been achieved, the Nigerian has seen his minutes in the side significantly reduced in recent months.

The forward has registered just six goals in 26 appearances after many believed he would be among the top scorers in the Championship.

He now looks set to bring his seven-year spell at the King Power to an end, with Villa making their interest known about signing him on a free transfer

Emery is looking to add to his attacking options ahead of what he hopes will be a season in the Champions League for the Villans.

But they could face competition from other interested Premier League sides and top clubs across Europe to secure Iheanacho’s signature in the coming weeks.
