He will be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow teenage academy graduate Andre Green and 21-year-old Jack Grealish who have been regular features for Steve Bruce in recent weeks.
After signing a new deal, Mooney took to his personal Twitter account to deliver this message to supporters.
“Buzzing to have signed my first professional contract with Aston Villa,” said Mooney.

Mooney has appeared on nine occasions for the Villa youngsters this term, scoring only one goal during those matches.
He has played seven matches in the newly revamped Premier League 2, but he is yet to start a match.
Furthermore, the highly-rated youngster has started two FA Cup Youth games, scoring during the recent 7-0 thrashing of Broxbourne.
Villa have seen the likes of Grealish, Green, Rushian-Hepburn-Murphy and Keinan Davis come through the ranks in recent seasons – the latter making his debut under Bruce during the FA Cup against Premier League side Tottenham in January.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, Alex McLeish has stated what surprised him at the club as he also made this Rangers comparison.
