Aston Villa 'hopeful' of agreeing Lamare Bogarde deal after new talks

Lamare Bogarde is attracting interest from a number of Premier League rivals as his future at Aston Villa remains up in the air as things stand.

The 22-year-old has been heavily involved in Unai Emery’s squad over the last season, but he could be tempted to move on in search of more regular minutes.

Premier League clubs including Brighton are believed to be keeping tabs on his situation and could make a move to lure him away from Villa Park.

However, former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Emery is determined to keep Bogarde and contract talks are already underway.

Having come through the club’s academy after joining from Feyenoord in 2020, they now hope he will stick around as part of a busy window for Aston Villa.

Can Aston Villa hold on to Lamare Bogarde?

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 29 May that Aston Villa are in talks with Bogarde to agree a new contract and extend his future at the club.

The versatile midfielder’s current contract is set to run until 2028, with the club in a strong position, but they are keen to extend his stay.

Villa hope agreeing new terms with Bogarde with deter interest from rival clubs, while they are always keen to keep their best academy graduates.

“I’ve heard good things about Lamare Bogarde,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They rate him very highly at Aston Villa, the manager is a big fan of his, and that’s why he’s been involved more in the squad this season.

“He hasn’t been starting every week, but he’s been a big part of the side and the success they’ve had in Europe especially.

“That’s why there is interest in him as well, because Premier League clubs are always looking to see if there’s a deal to be done for a player on the fringes like that.

“But Villa don’t want to see him go, they’re speaking to him about a new contract and they hope they’re going to be able to reach an agreement.

“Keeping the best academy graduates at the club is always a priority, it’s something Villa want to prioritise because a lot of them have been allowed to move on.

“It’s good to have players like that around the club, especially when they’re playing well, so if they can put off other clubs and keep him around, that would be ideal.”

Which clubs are interested in signing Bogarde?

Bogarde’s performances for Aston Villa this season have attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs who could look to lure him away.

He made 44 appearances in Emery’s side, and while half of those came from the bench, he has established himself as a key part of the boss’ plans.

There have also been suggestions that Villa may have to sell due to financial concerns, although their Champions League qualification could ease any worry.

The Seagulls are also planning for a busy transfer window and hope to continue signing young players and developing them into big-name stars.
