Aston Villa new arrival's past raises behind-the-scenes concerns - ex-Villa employee

Published on:

One Aston Villa summer signing has brought a concerning past with him to Villa Park.

That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Unai Emery's side are going through plenty of changes after they lost a number of their top stars in the summer.

That meant the B6 outfit had to dip into the transfer market in order to fill out the voids left behind, with Alejandro Garnacho among those arrivals.

The Argentinian international has signed on loan with a conditional obligation to buy, a similarly agreed deal to Harvey Elliott's last season.

Since joining, Garnacho has been taking the headlines in all the wrong ways, and now there are more issues emerging.

Alejandro Garnacho's past comes under scrutiny after behind-the-scenes claim

Garnacho has struggled to make an impact in the Aston Villa squad, and it looks like he could be Elliott 2.0 in B6.

He has so far made just three appearances, averaging a total of 10 minutes per match for Villa.

The signing made little sense, and it continues to do so in the eyes of King, who has shared some behind-the-scenes concerns about Garnacho.

"I don't like, just something about him as a person, and his attitude on the pitch at times, always wanting to try and get the opposition in trouble," King told Football Insider.

"You know, he's got enough technique and ability to change games, but if he'd have been the player everybody's expected, he wouldn't have left Man United.

"And then when he took Chelsea, he certainly wouldn't have left Chelsea, but there are obviously things behind the scenes there that weren't correct."

Villa can't afford to make £42.5m Garnacho mistake

Garnacho will sign for Aston Villa for £42.5million once he reaches a certain threshold of appearances this season.

However, with the winger not exactly lighting up Villa Park yet and struggling to impress Emery, the Premier League side cannot risk having to pay that fee next summer.

Villa's finances have long held them back from pushing on, and forking out such a high fee on a player unlikely to provide a significant difference makes little sense.

Emery's club have somehow managed to find themselves back in the same scenario as last season, with the winger potentially being isolated from Premier League squads.
