Ex-Villa scout shares why Nicolas Jackson 'worries me' at Aston Villa
Nicolas Jackson still has a lingering concern at Aston Villa despite scoring against Brentford over the weekend.
That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Villans saw a gaping hole in their squad during the summer when Ollie Watkins departed England to join Al Hilal.
It meant Unai Emery had the difficult task of replacing a proven goalscorer in England's top flight, with not many around who can replicate him.
In the end, Villa would bring former Chelsea striker Jackson to B6.
However, there remains a worry over the Senegalese forward, with an alternative signing proposed.
Why Nicolas Jackson still brings concern at Aston Villa despite back-to-back goals
Jackson has begun to hit form at Aston Villa, scoring two goals over his last two fixtures for the Villans.
It is certainly one of the significant and many positives to emerge over those two Villa matches, with four points picked up from a possible six.
But the Senegalese international has a long way to go to fully impress supporters, with the forward still having a lingering doubt over his head.
With those emerging due to his time at Chelsea, and his inability to make a difference at Stamford Bridge.
"You know, I can tell you the thing that always worries me is, if he's such a good player, why didn't he do it regularly at Chelsea?" King told Football Insider.
"You know, Chelsea got him out the door, they brought in Joao Pedro. I think it would have been better if Villa had brought in Joao Pedro instead of Nicolas Jackson, to be honest, but that's football."
Aston Villa must discover whether Jackson can be trusted long-term
While the last two games have been positive, that is just two fixtures from a long season.
Villa must now decipher whether this is a sign of things to come from Jackson or whether it is simply just a purple patch for the former Chelsea forward.
If it is the latter, Emery is not short of options up front either. Tammy Abraham can be used as the number nine, but another more exciting attacker could be called upon.
Brian Madjo has taken Villa by storm over pre-season, and with him back available after injury, it would not be shocking to see him get a run of games up top.
