John McGinn has wished Sil Swinkels well after his move from Aston Villa to Sheffield Wednesday was confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

Villa are set for a busy summer transfer window after sealing a return to Champions League football last season.

Numerous midfield changes are on the horizon, with Douglas Luiz having already departed and McGinn linked with a move away.

The club confirmed an early summer sale on social media on Thursday, with young defender Swinkels joining Sheffield Wednesday in a permanent deal.

Swinkels has taken to Instagram following confirmation of the move, with McGinn sending him a message of support in the replies.

He featured twice for the Villans' senior side following a move from Feyenoord in 2020.

Wednesday have signed Swinkels permanently after an impressive loan spell at Chesterfield, with Villa including matching rights in the deal.

Sources have previously told Football Insider that Everton want to sign McGinn, but he is yet to leave Villa Park after such a strong campaign as their captain.

The Scotland midfielder sent a message saying: "All the best big man!!" with two heart emojis to Swinkels after he posted a message to Villa and their fans on Instagram.

Swinkels message called his six years in the Second City "unforgettable", as he insisted that he will "always be grateful" for the support of everyone at the club.

As well as McGinn, Lamare Bogarde, Filip Marschall and Jamal Jimoh-Aloba also left a red heart emojis, while Lewis Dobbin commented: "Good luck brother!"

Sources: Middlesbrough work on agreeing deal to sign Aston Villa's Lewis Dobbin

What is the latest on Dobbin's future at Villa?

Dobbin himself has been closely linked with another Villa exit this summer, after an impressive loan spell at Preston North End last season.

The 23-year-old registered 11 goals and eight assists in 41 games for PNE and is on the radar of several Championship clubs once again this season.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Middlesbrough are keen on signing Dobbin permanently this summer.

Kim Hellberg is a keen admirer of his abilities from the wing, but Sheffield United also remain interested in his services too.
