Could the Second City derby return next season?
While Birmingham have not been in the Premier League since 2011, they will feel like they have a good chance of achieving promotion this season.
Backed by owners, Shelby Companies Limited, the club are seen as one of the favourites to achieve promotion from the Championship come May.
Given that Aston Villa are highly unlikely to be relegated this season, the Second City derby could easily return for the first time since 2019 next year.
There is also a chance the two clubs could draw each other in either the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup this season. However, the two rivals have not met in a cup competition since the 2015-26 campaign.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how both teams perform in the upcoming 2026-27 season as they look to achieve their goals.
