Aston Villa set for '£10m' new blow - top source
Aston Villa could lose as much as £10million after they confirmed that the North Stand will be closed for the entire 2026-27 campaign due to it being redeveloped.
That is according to former Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the club will lose out on revenue this season due to the ongoing works.
Villa Park’s capacity has shrunk due to the ongoing redevelopment of the North Stand from 43,000 to around 37,000.
Once completed, the project will see Villa Park’s capacity rise to 50,000, which will provide a major boost to their revenue.
The £100m redevelopment will also see new glossy concourses added, as well as fresh changing rooms and first-team facilities for players
However, for the 2026-27 campaign, the Birmingham outfit are inevitably going to lose funds with fewer tickets now being sold.

Villa's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs – believes that Villa Park’s redevelopment will come at a short-term cost this season.
The Birmingham outfit are set to play in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, as well as the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, and the club are now set to miss out on 6,000 supporters for each home game.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness outlined how much Villa could lose due to the North Stand redevelopment this season.
He said: “Well, I did a quick calculation, and I think it'd be somewhere between £5m and £6m in terms of ticketing.
“If you look at the overall spend from fans, you could be somewhere between £8m and £10m they could be losing.”
When will the Villa Park redevelopment be complete?
Villa hope to complete all of the work at Villa Park by the 2027-28 campaign.
As a result, the ground should be ready for Euro 2028, where it is set to host three group stage matches and a round of 16 tie.
Therefore, plenty of work will need to be done as the club looks to make Villa Park one of the best stadiums in England.
However, it remains to be seen how the project will progress over the coming months.
