It was far from a convincing display from the Birmingham outfit, but they did what they needed to do to secure the three points.

Despite some disappointing performances from the players, one man who stood out was Nicolas Jackson.

The striker netted Villa’s third against the Belgian side and proved to be a menace throughout the game as he led the frontline.

As a result, it was easily his best performance to date since he made the move to Villa Park for a deal worth up to £65million.

However, if his recent display is anything to go by, Unai Emery may have now secured himself a bargain buy at the club.

After difficult fixtures against Arsenal and Hull City, Jackson finally came to life against Club Brugge.

The striker caused problems for their backline throughout the match and was perhaps unlucky not to add further goal contributions to his tally.

According to Fotmob on 9 September, the striker had three shots, with two being on target, created three chances, including one big chance; had a 1.17 xG, had a 0.15 xA, completed two out of four attempted dribbles and made four recoveries.

Therefore, if Jackson can keep this up throughout the rest of the campaign, he will no doubt score and assist plenty of goals over the next 12 months.

As a result, the £65m that Villa paid for the striker will look like a bargain in months to come.

Did Aston Villa deserve to beat Club Brugge?

According to the stats, Villa came away deserved winners from the Club Brugge clash.

Overall, the visitors had 36 per cent possession, 21 shots, nine of which were on target, a 3.22 xG and four big chances.

In comparison, Club Brugge had 64 per cent possession, 14 shots, seven of which were on target, a 1.53 xG and two big chances.

Therefore, if Villa can translate this performance into their Premier League matches, they should not have any trouble getting their first victory in the division on the board this season.
