Unai Emery to fix Aston Villa issue with internal changes: ‘I’ve seen him do it before’

Published on:

Aston Villa already have the right players in the building to help fix their attacking issues in the coming weeks.

That is according to former Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that Unai Emery will get his side firing in the final third.

This comes with the Villans currently possessing the lowest xG of any Premier League team so far this season, alongside the fewest number of shots on target.

Wyness is adamant that Emery will turn things around without the need for new faces to be added to his group, just as he did last season.

The second city outfit failed to score in their opening four league games last term, but ultimately went on to qualify for Champions League football at the end of the campaign.

Wyness believes that Emery is highly skilled when it comes to improving a squad, and expects to start seeing changes in their fortunes in the coming weeks.

Unai Emery is Aston Villa’s best asset

Villa’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs – believes that having Emery in charge always gives his former club the “best chance” of solving any issues that emerge.

The concerns surrounding creativity have been prevalent of late, but the Scottish businessman feels that Emery will hone in and narrow his squad to focus on the top talents that he has available.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness made it clear that he does not expect Villa’s struggles to continue for much longer.

“The squad you see in September from Emery won't be the squad you're going to see November and December. I think he's going to knit the whole thing together and they’re going to move forward,” he said.

“I have a lot of faith in him as a manager, as I say, and I've seen him do it before. It was a big squad adjustment; we know that, and we've discussed it many times, but doing it with Emery at the helm gives you the best chance of success.

“I can see already some pieces starting to fit together and I think it will come together and you won't be comparing the same two groups.

“Let's come back and revisit that in November and December and see how this sounds, if I'm right or not. But I think it should be okay for Emery going forward.”

Unai Emery has 'new plan' for Alejandro Garnacho at Aston Villa after what he saw in friendly

Emery has new plan for Alejandro Garnacho

Former Villa scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Emery is likely to find a bigger role for Chelsea loanee Alejandro Garnacho now the international break is over.

The winger has played just 31 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, but scored in a 3-1 friendly victory over Sevilla last week.

Brown believes that Emery could potentially be the “perfect” manager to finally get the best out of Garnacho this season, after up and down spells at both Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Villans have a conditional obligation to buy the 22-year-old at the end of the campaign, and will be desperately hoping that he finds form as a result.
