Tammy Abraham ready to explode at Aston Villa after new surgery update
Tammy Abraham was well below par during his first season back at Aston Villa - and now we know why.
The 28-year-old arrived at Villa Park during the last winter transfer window, with the hope of Ollie Watkins being challenged for the starting spot under Unai Emery.
On that front, the plan obviously worked. The latter finished the season on 21 goals and five assists, helping the Villans to the Europa League title, but Abraham struggled.
After failing to make it off the bench for the final four games of the 2025-26 campaign, Abraham has now dropped an injury update that explains everything.
Tammy Abraham undergoes surprise surgery after the season ends
Abraham took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, 3 June, with a simple caption of “Op done,” and the centre-forward recovering from a surgery in a hospital bed.
It would appear that the former Chelsea figure has undergone surgery on his shoulder, and it was likely Villa’s dramatic 4-3 win over Sunderland in April that caused it.
When scoring the winner at Villa Park, he was unable to celebrate, instead falling to the floor while clutching his shoulder in immense pain.
While he notched three goals and an assist in his opening 16 appearances, Abraham has clearly been re-adapting to the Premier League, and next season will be different.
Could Unai Emery be relying on Abraham next season?
Abraham will be hoping to put his early struggles behind him in 2026-27, and the new season will provide a clean slate for the centre-forward to star.
The manager may not even have a choice but to put his full trust in the 28-year-old, with rumours circulating around some of Villa’s biggest names this summer.
Mick Brown told Football Insider in April that Villa could accept an offer for Watkins should interested clubs make a bid, and it remains to be seen where the club now stand.
Were the Villans to part ways with the England international, it would be the perfect chance for Abraham to rediscover the form shown during the 2018-29 season.
Whatever happens, the surgery should be seen as a fresh start for the striker, and now there’s nothing holding him back from becoming a key star at Villa Park.
