Aston Villa fans are unimpressed with the club’s links to World Cup sensation Julian Quinones.

The 29-year-old striker was one of the stars of the early stages of the tournament, with the Mexico international netting four times in five matches.

This included a goal against England in the 3-2 defeat, thanks to the attacker’s powerful finish just before half-time.

However, his lack of record in Europe has made many Villa fans concerned, with the striker currently playing for Saudi side Al Qadsiah.

Reports have emerged that contacts have recently intensified between Villa and the Saudi side over a potential deal.

No official offer has been sent yet, with the Villa Park faithful clearly keen for it to stay this way.

Aston Villa fans do not rate Julian Quinones

Every World Cup, there is always a breakout star that goes on to flop after a big transfer.

This summer, there have been many relatively unknown talents who have shone, including Quinones.

As a result, when Villa’s interest in the striker was reported by Sky Sports, fans were furious.

Many took to X, insisting that Quinones would be a flop if he were to sign, with his lack of experience in Europe, and his old age being significant downsides to a deal.

Should Villa pursue a deal for Quinones?

Realistically, the criticism around Quinones is perhaps a tad unfair, with the attacker having the potential to be a big hit in the Premier League if Villa can get a deal over the line.

The striker netted 33 goals in the Saudi Pro League last season and won the Golden Boot.

This is without even taking into consideration his World Cup form, which saw him net against three sides who reached the knockouts.

While his age is a concern, if Villa can strike a deal for a relatively low price, he would be an excellent option in the squad.

At the end of the day, Unai Emery needs to be targeting strikers on form rather than European-based strikers who are out of sorts.

Nevertheless, only time will tell if Villa will make an offer for the attacker as they look to kick on after a successful 2025-26 campaign.
