Aston Villa fume as ‘embarrassing’ Jean-Clair Todibo details emerge

Aston Villa fans are furious after it was revealed that the club are exploring a late deal to sign West Ham United’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Birmingham outfit are desperate for a new centre-back this summer, and the 26-year-old is on their shortlist.

This comes after Ezri Konsa made a move to Arsenal earlier this month, with Unai Emery now short on options at the back.

Villa have been linked with moves for Joel Ordonez and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, but are now considering alternative options, with Todibo being one.

However, this has not gone down well with the Villa Park faithful, who are appalled that the defender could prove to be Konsa’s replacement.

Todibo played 23 times in the Premier League last season and was part of the West Ham side that was relegated from the top-flight.

Villa fans are already highly frustrated with the club’s transfer dealings this window.

The Birmingham outfit has seen many of their big-name players depart, with their replacements not being of the same quality.

However, with The Athletic reporting that Konsa could potentially be replaced with Todibo appears to be a step too far for many supporters.

The defender was pretty awful at West Ham last season, and only kept one Premier League clean sheet when he was on the pitch.

Therefore, for him to potentially replace one of the best defenders in the club’s modern history has caused outrage, with many supporters taking to X to express their anger.

How bad is Todibo?

When looking at Todibo’s stats from last season, there aren’t many that are eye-catching.

According to Fotmob on 27 August, the defender averaged 1.88 tackles, 0.84 interceptions, 0.64 blocked shots, 0.35 times dribbled past, 4.85 clearances, 1.83 goals conceded while on the pitch and 0.05 clean sheets per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

Therefore, it is safe to say that Todibo could prove to be a poor replacement for Konsa if he is brought through the door before the 1 September deadline.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Villa actually act on their interest and if a bid is placed for the West Ham defender in the coming days.
