Aston Villa is a 'good move' for Nicolas Jackson after source's reveal - Keith Wyness
Nicolas Jackson could be about to resurrect his Premier League career with a move to join Aston Villa from Chelsea.
That is according to former Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that Villa Park could be the perfect place for the striker to get back on track.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Unai Emery's side made an enquiry into the Senegal international's availability as part of Morgan Rogers' £117million Chelsea talks.
Wyness believes that Emery may be the perfect manager to get the frontman firing again, having previously handed him his La Liga debut during their time at Villarreal.
The Villa boss was a big fan of Jackson during his time with the Yellow Submarine, and has remained a keen admirer of the 25-year-old.
Jackson's future at Stamford Bridge is hugely uncertain this summer, after a loan spell with Bayern Munich last season brought 11 goals in 34 games.
Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa a 'big link'
Villa's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that a "big link" still remains between Emery and Jackson.
The second city outfit were tipped to make a move for the forward last summer, and he also remains a target for them this time around.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the Scottish businessman made it clear that Emery could be the right man to truly unlock Jackson.
"There is a big link there. Not only did Emery work with him, I think he gave him his debut at Villarreal. So I think there's definitely history there," he said.
"It's actually the one manager that might be able to get something out of Jackson, who to me has not delivered so far. As my old friend used to say, he promised the world and delivered an Atlas, and I think that's been the case with him so far.
"Emery is probably the one that he may respond well to, and I think it could be a good move for him. We're starting to see that £117m be used up on the Villa side as well on Chelsea players."
Aston Villa must work to convince Jackson
Football Insider revealed at the end of June that Jackson does not want to push to leave Chelsea this summer, and is keen to try to impress new manager Xabi Alonso during pre-season.
There are several clubs in the Premier League and beyond who are keen on the frontman, but the player himself is hoping that his slate has now been wiped clean.
It remains to be seen where Alonso views Jackson in the current pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and an exit could still be on the cards.
However, it is already clear that Villa will have to work to convince him that staying in West London is not the right option for him at the moment.
