Aston Villa are reportedly tracking Tarik Muharemovic and the centre-back delivered an outstanding performance in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 1-1 draw vs Canada on Friday.

The Birmingham outfit are believed to be one of several clubs monitoring the 23-year-old Sassuolo star as Unai Emery looks to upgrade his backline.

Now, after a fabulous campaign in the Serie A this season, he has continued this form with his country at the 2026 World Cup.

Against the hosts, the defender proved to be a key component in the Balkan nation, picking up a potentially vital point, which could backfire for Aston Villa.

Sassuolo had previously valued Muharemovic at around £34.5million this summer transfer window.

However, his performance in the World Cup could now push this value up to around £40m.

Tarik Muharemovic was a brick wall against Canada

Bosnia and Herzegovina had to withstand heavy Canadian pressure for a good portion of the game on Friday, and Muharemovic was key to ensuring that the hosts only netted once.

The defender put his body on the line numerous times and made a fantastic block in the last second to prevent Cyle Larin from getting a shot on goal.

His performance showcased to the world just how good he was, with Canada heavily struggling to get past the Aston Villa target.

According to Fotmob on 12 June, the centre-back made one tackle, 21 clearances, two interceptions and six recoveries.

Therefore, it would be no surprise if Sassuolo raised the value of the defender by another £5m in what could be a big transfer blow for Villa.

Tarik Muharemovic: Aston Villa can sign heir to Tyrone Mings' throne for just £35million

Is Tyrone Mings on his way out at Villa?

Tyrone Mings has been one of Villa’s most important players for years.

The centre-back has been crucial to the club’s rise up the Premier League table, which has even earned him a series of England caps.

However, amid links to the likes of Muharemovic, his long-term future at Villa Park does not look strong.

Now, it has been reported that Besiktas are eyeing a deal for Mings ahead of the summer transfer window, which could see him depart.

It is understood that the player is currently valued at around £3.5m as he enters the final year of his contract.
