Aston Villa are surely regretting not pushing harder to complete the signing of Jonathan David after his sensational start at Atletico Madrid.

The striker has been regularly linked to the Birmingham outfit in recent years, and these rumours emerged once again this summer.

However, Unai Emery’s side would not seal the signing of the 26-year-old, with the Juventus attacker eventually securing a loan move to Atletico Madrid on 1 September.

So far, this has been a highly successful move, with the Canada international picking up three goal contributions in two La Liga matches to date this season.

On Wednesday, David netted and picked up an assist against Osasuna as the capital club came away as 4-0 winners.

Now, given Villa’s tricky start to the campaign, they will surely regret not sealing the signing.

The striker has been excellent and helped the club move up to third in the La Liga table on Wednesday thanks to his performance.

This type of player is exactly what Villa are missing at the moment, with the club only netting once in their first four games of the Premier League season.

Despite the summer transfer window only closing weeks ago, the winter window is going to be vital for Villa.

The opening matches of the campaign have exposed how badly Villa are lacking quality in certain areas.

While the club is unlikely to be fighting relegation this season, it is a possibility that cannot be ruled out as of yet, considering their recent results.
