Aston Villa are continuing to keep tabs on Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki with a view to striking a deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Japan international has been added to the Villans' shortlist of goalkeeping targets, with Emi Martinez continuing to edge towards a move to Juventus.

The Argentine international has already agreed personal terms with the Italian giants, and Unai Emery and Co. are aware that this is their final chance to cash in on him as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Suzuki is one of several glovemen that the second city outfit are assessing at the moment, and is believed to represent a cheaper option than Manchester City's James Trafford.

It has been quietly reported that the latter could be available for £40million this summer, but the fee for Suzuki is not expected to come close to that figure.

Villa are facing significant competition for Trafford's signature from across the Premier League, and Suzuki has now emerged alongside him as one of their top options.

Aston Villa face possible value rise with Zion Suzuki

Suzuki has impressed with Parma in recent seasons and is building a growing reputation for himself as a top Serie A goalkeeper.

He kept five clean sheets from 20 league appearances in 2025-26, and also boasted a save percentage of just over 70 per cent.

The 23-year-old is currently away at the World Cup with Japan, where he made four saves to help his country to a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in their opening group game.

It is expected that the starlet's value in the summer market could rise if he continues to catch the eye at the tournament.

That has the potential to seriously impact Villa's chase of his signature, while Leeds United have also been linked with a move for him in recent days.

Villa are keeping their options open when it comes to a potential replacement for Martinez, but it is understood that Suzuki would provide a more cost-effective option than Trafford at the moment.

'I'm told Aston Villa plan to accept Ian Maatsen offer as Unai Emery eyes new signing'

Aston Villa plan to accept defender offer

Former Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that his former club will accept an offer for left-back Ian Maatsen this summer.

The ex-recruitment man outlined that a new left-back is a major priority for the Villans this summer, and they are open to selling Maatsen as a result.

Brown made it clear that the club believe they can upgrade upon the Dutchman, and are planning to sell him in a bid to raise funds.

The 24-year-old started 17 games in the Premier League last term, but regularly found himself playing second fiddle to Lucas Digne on the left side of the defence.
