When Morgan Rogers sealed his £117million move to Chelsea, Aston Villa supporters shivered at the idea of trying to replace him.

Using that cash, Unai Emery signed Matteo Ruggeri, Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, Zion Suzuki, Nicolas Jackson, Ibrahim Mbaye and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Although the Villans lost a superstar in the making, his departure helped to overhaul the squad completely, which was desperately needed this summer.

With Alejandro Garnacho and Aaron Wan-Bissaka arriving on loan and Leon Goretzka being signed for free, Emery really cannot complain about the size of his squad.

And it was a total team performance, the best of the season so far, that saw Villa put Fenerbahce to the sword in a 6-0 win on Wednesday, 14 October.

There were so many positives, including braces for Jackson and Ross Barkley, while Mbaye also burst into life after his £47million move from PSG.

Ibrahim Mbaye's value to soar at Villa Park

The 18-year-old grabbed his first assist against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, but he's really struggled for minutes since signing.

Emery finally got a real taste of what the talented winger can do at Villa Park, and there is no doubt that his valuation is about to soar.

In 79 minutes, Mbaye had 57 touches, created four chances, the joint-most, had two shots saved, completed 91 per cent of his passes, and grabbed an assist [FotMob].

He had eight touches in the Fenerbahce box - once again, the most of anyone - missed a big chance, made two tackles and seven recoveries, and won 75 per cent of his ground duels.

If there were any doubts over the teenager's ability, those will have instantly vanished. And funnily enough, anyone missing Rogers might have forgotten about him too.

Aston Villa's top-five record departures

Obviously, Rogers' £117m move to Chelsea during the summer sees him take top spot for Villa's most expensive departures in the club's history.

He overtook Jack Grealish, who moved to Manchester City for £100m in 2021, with Jhon Duran bumped down to third after his £65m exit.

Ezri Konsa moved into fifth with his £51m move to Arsenal during the summer, not quite overtaking Moussa Diaby, who Villa sold for just under £52m.

In just a couple of seasons, Mbaye could be joining that list, but the Villans won't want to be cashing in unless they really have to, like they did with Rogers.
