Unai Emery 'not happy' with Aston Villa after two marquee sales 'come out of nowhere'

Unai Emery is believed to be raging at the Aston Villa board following three marquee sales and a huge blow to his ambitions for the season.

Following their return to Champions League football, the boss had hoped to add to what was a strong squad at Villa Park with additions to improve depth and quality.

While there was an understanding that their spending would be limited without sales, the Spaniard was still reluctant to lose the most important players from his squad.

However, former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Emery is now unhappy at having been forced into the sales of Lucas Digne, Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers.

That has left the boss with a gaping hole in his squad, and means that they must now make three big signings just to get back to square one.

Aston Villa raked in £152million from their three major sales, which is expected to be reinvested into their squad, but landing upgrades will prove extremely difficult.

Why is Unai Emery not happy with Aston Villa?

Brown told Football Insider last month that Emery would aim to block Rogers leaving Aston Villa given his importance to the squad and his plans for the future.

While the size of the eventual fee made the offer too good for Aston Villa to turn down, it has not made the manager's job any easier, with his squad significantly weakened.

Emery will now be forced to scramble for replacements in the transfer market, with Aston Villa now at risk of suffering a major blow to their ambitious plans.

"Emery is not happy with the way this transfer window has played out," Brown told Football Insider.

"Going into it, his main plan was to keep his squad together, stop their best players being lured away, and bring in a few players around them to improve and add some depth.

"A couple of weeks later and he's lost three of his most important players in Tielemans and Digne, those deals came out of nowhere by the way, and now Morgan Rogers.

"So now they're scrambling in the transfer market to replace them, which is always going to be a tough task looking at the players they've lost.

"Aston Villa are now in a position where they need to bring in three new players just to get back to where they were at the start of the window, let alone build on it.

"The manager will be fuming, because it makes his job that much harder coming off the back of a season where they won silverware and got into the Champions League."

Is there potential that Emery could quit Aston Villa?

Emery's frustrations at Aston Villa are nothing new, with the boss having reportedly been unhappy with a few decisions made behind the scenes at Villa Park.

Meanwhile, he is believed to have been frustrated with the financial restrictions in place in recent seasons, as it has limited Villa from matching his ambitious plans.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Emery could walk away from his position as Aston Villa manager after a difficult run of form towards the end of the season.

Despite ultimately managing to qualify for the Champions League, the lack of available funds and now a mass exodus of key players may force the boss to reconsider his stance.

While it would come as a surprise to see Emery walk away from Villa Park, especially with pre-season now underway, his frustrations are believed to be growing.
