Aaron Wan-Bissaka appears set to sign across the dotted line as a new Aston Villa player ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last Friday that Unai Emery's side have agreed a deal to sign the defender, who has yet to play for West Ham United this season.

The 29-year-old, who starred at the 2026 World Cup with Congo, missed the Hammers' opening draw against Burnley on Sunday, 16 August.

Barring any hiccups, he should be a Villa player before the summer window slams shut, adding another defensive unit to Emery's squad.

With Kosta Nedeljkovic set to join Rangers, the right-back spot was clearly a priority at Villa Park, with the Villans finally about to get their man.

However, while it could raise questions over Matty Cash's future at the club, Emery has other plans for the former Manchester United man.

Matty Cash given fresh competition at Aston Villa

Villa's pursuit of Wan-Bissaka is at an advanced stage, with an announcement likely imminent on social media.

Villa have been searching for a new right-back signing for most of the summer, but it remained unclear if that was a replacement for Cash or not.

Football Insider understands, though, that Wan-Bissaka will be used in three different positions, in a central defensive trio, central in a 4-4-2 and his long-established right-back position.

This would suggest that Cash is more than safe at Villa Park, with very little time left to sign direct competition for the Villa stalwart.

Injuries have been a slight issue for the defender, missing games here and there due to knee and calf problems, so Wan-Bissaka would be able to cover him should anything happen.

Who else could Unai Emery sign?

As well as Wan-Bissaka, the arrival of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki looks imminent, likely bringing an end to Emi Martinez's dominance at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Bryan King backed the Villans to sign Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli, who has been the subject of transfer interest from Turkey.

Villa had also been targeting a move for Juventus' Jonathan David, but that no longer looks to be happening. That might depend on Ollie Watkins' future, though.

After links with Turkey earlier in the window, the England international is now rumoured to be interested in a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

There is no telling just how big of a blow that would be, especially this late in the window.
