'Awful lot of money' - Exclusive: £20m+ claim after Rangers board decision made by Darren Bent

Darren Bent claims Rangers could pick up £20million-plus if they choose to cash in on Alfredo Morelos this summer.

The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has urged the Gers to sell their star forward, claiming the Colombian’s stock is as high as it is ever going to be.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Rangers board have chosen to postpone contract talks with the 23-year-old after initially planning to offer the hitman a new deal.

Bent believes that the Light Blues should be looking at selling, rather than keeping, the six-cap international this summer, suggesting they could secure a huge windfall in the transfer window.

Bent told Football Insider: “Obviously you’ve got all the on-field antics. For me, I know he’s an absolute fans favourite and they love him but you’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

“He’s playing really well, his price is never going to be as high as it is now and he hasn’t had a great second half of the season.

“I’d try and cash in now and try get some money for him. If you get £20-25million you can replace him. If someone from the Premier League, £25million in today’s market isn’t going to get you a lot but in Scotland that’s an awful lot of money.”

Morelos has netted 29 goals in 46 appearances this season – just one less than he managed in the whole 2018/19 campaign.

However, he has had a slow start to 2020, with just one strike to his name since the Scottish winter break.

In other Rangers news, Darren Bent has urged the club to sell another first-team talent to a Premier League side.
