Balague delivers fascinating update on possibility of Pochettino joining Barcelona from Tottenham

By Harry Sykes

Mauricio Pochettino is not being lined up by Barcelona to become their new manager, according to Guillem Balague.

Sky Sports’ Spanish expert poured cold water on the possibility of Pochettino making a stunning move from Tottenham to Camp Nou this summer as he does not fit the “profile” the Catalan club are seeking.

The Argentine has emerged as one of the most sought-after managers in world football as a result of the transformation of Spurs during his three seasons at the helm.

Tottenham are challenging strongly for the Premier League title in the final weeks of the season on the back of a nine-match winning streak in the competition.

This comes after they finished third in the league last season to qualify for the Champions League for only the second time in their history.

Reports in Spain and England have linked Pochettino with replacing Luis Enrique, who has announced he will step down as Barcelona manager at the end of the season.

But Balague has insisted there is no chance of the former Espanyol manager taking over at the club’s bitter rivals.

“This is a story we have touched on all season,” Balague said in response to a query on Sky Sports’ website. “Mauricio Pochettino has already said that he does not want to be the manager of Barcelona, despite having a relationship with the club’s president with their sons having gone to the same school for the past 15 years.

“And while he does have admirers at the Nou Camp, he is not the profile they are looking for at the moment and he does not want to go there.”

Spurs brushed Arsenal aside with a convincing 2-0 win on Sunday to ensure they will finish above their bitter rivals for the first time in 22 years.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have sensationally terminated the contract of one of their defenders.
