Gareth Bale has not justified another year at Tottenham and will be at a new club next season, according to Alex McLeish.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss suggested the superstar’s “world-class” agent would already be working on other options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bale confirmed he planned on returning to play for Real Madrid next season after building his fitness at Spurs.

The Wales international has started six times in 12 league appearances and has turned out 25 times across all competitions this season.

The 31-year-old will still have another 12 months on his contract in Spain when his temporary stay in north London comes to an end.

However, he fell firmly out of favour under manager Zinedine Zidane before his loan and faces a fight to re-establish himself at the Bernabeu.

McLeish suggested Bale had no future at Real but admitted there was no guarantee Spurs would return for him.

McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “In a nutshell, Real Madrid will be trying to get him out of the contract with a little money as they can.

“They’ll probably let him do a deal somewhere and there will be clubs who will be eager to take Gareth on. Whether Mourinho has seen enough of Gareth over the last year or so…

“It seems if you’re a Spurs fan watching, he’s not really justified enough to be a full-time Spurs signing. There’s been Gareth Bale moments but maybe not the Gareth Bale we want to see every week.

“Every game, every minute he’s on the pitch he’s got to treat as crucial if he wants to stay at Spurs. He’s got a world-class agent.

“The agent could be working away doing something else at the moment in terms of his future.”
