Shay Given has congratulated Newcastle as they sealed their promotion back to the Premier League with a 4-1 victory against Preston at St. James’ Park on Monday night.
Ayoze Perez bagged a brace as a Matt Ritchie penalty and Christian Atsu goal rounded off what was a straightforward victory over Simon Grayson’s men, who finished the game a man down after Paul Gallagher was sent off.
Rafa Benitez’s side are now guaranteed to finish in the Championship’s automatic promotion spots and will battle it out with Brighton to win the title in their two remaining fixtures.
Newcastle hero Given is delighted to see his former club get themselves back into the top-flight, saying that that is where they should always be.
“Congrats to everyone at Newcastle. Back in the Premier League where they belong,” said the 40-year-old on his personal Twitter account.

He was part of the 2006 Intertoto Cup winning squad and was named in the PFA team of the year on two occasions while with the Magpies.
Since Given left Tyneside in 2012, he has had spells at Manchester City, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough before moving to the Potteries in 2015.
