Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez will prioritise signing a new right-back this summer, according to a report.
The Chronicle claims that the Magpies will go all out to try sign a new right-sided full-back that can compete with DeAndre Yedlin for the position, as he is set to be short of options going into the 2018/19 campaign.
It is understood that Torino’s Lorenzo De Silvestri is on their radar and that Benitez has been working on transfers since the season ended.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle certainly will need some competition for Yedlin next year, but the USA international has massively improved under the tutelage of Benitez. The speed demon offers a great attacking threat for the Magpies with his pace when he bombs forward and he has also started to tighten up defensively. However, Newcastle now want to establish themselves back in the top flight and having healthy competition in the squad is healthy. They do of course need an extra defensive reinforcement, but based on the recent season they surely have to prioritise a new centre-forward. Benitez’s side have the potential to bring European football back to St James’ Park in the coming years if they sign the right calibre of player and they have the perfect genius masterminding operations. They need a new striker that knows the Premier League well and they have the supplying line already in the shape of Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Perez and Jonjo Shelvey.
