Darren Bent believes it is only a matter of time before top European clubs become interested in Tottenham winger Heung-Min Son.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and England striker said the South Korean captain deserves a new contract and pay rise.
Football Insider revealed last week that the Lilywhites have offered the 28-year-old a new five-year deal that will cost the club over £50million.
It would see Son earn £200,000-a-week plus performance-related bonuses, putting him in line with top earner Harry Kane.
His current deal ends in 2023 and Daniel Levy is keen to avoid another star man run down their deal as happened with Christian Eriksen.
The Danish international joined Inter Milan in a cut-price deal in January with just months left on his contract.
Asked by Football Insider whether Son is deserving of a new contract and bumper pay rise, Bent said: “Of course he does.
“He is someone who does it week in, week out, even when Harry Kane goes down with injuries he’s been the main man to step up and get them goals as well.
“He thoroughly deserves it, 100%.
“It’s really positive for Spurs fans and the football club.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if was getting linked to top clubs here there and everywhere because he’s a top player.
“The fact he wants to commit his future to Spurs is superb.”
Son has got off to a fantastic start to the season, netting nine goals in eight appearances in all competitions.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said the winger is deserving of a new deal and that the situation would be sorted “sooner or later”.
