‘Better than a signing’ - Leeds fans react on Twitter to reported 27-year-old exit

By Derek Smithson

Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci is reportedly set to leave in the summer – and the club’s supporters expressed their delight on Twitter with the news.

BBC correspondent Adam Pope has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 27-year-old will not return to Elland Road following the end of his loan spell at Italian club Empoli.

Italian outlet Tutto Meracto Web report that Serie A side Bolgona are eyeing a move for the centre-back as his three-year spell with Leeds comes to an end.

Bellusci still has one year remaining on his contract at the Yorkshire club, but is set to leave the Championship and likely to return to his homeland Italy.

The fiery character endured a mixed spell during his time with the Whites and was frequently criticised by supporters for his simple mistakes in defence.

He is also regarded as a tough tackling centre-back who has a poor disciplinary record of 77 yellow cards in 243 senior appearances throughout his career.

Bellusci spent the whole of last season out on loan, but Leeds fans have not forgotten about the defender’s performances for the club.

One fan stated that his departure is “better than a new signing”, while another claimed that new owner Andrea Radrizzani is “working miracles”.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds may need to bolster their centre-back options in the summer as loanee Kyle Bartley returns to parent club Swansea.

They do have Pontus Jansson, Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper as senior options at centre-back, meaning whoever the new manager is will be short in that position.

In other Leeds transfer news, they are in pole position to sign an African forward.
