Paul Robinson is adamant Sam Allardyce will keep West Brom up and made the huge claim their new manager is better at preparing teams than “anyone I’ve ever worked with”.

The former England international who worked under Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers, told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs that the 66-year-old’s man management skills are “second to none”.

The Baggies were beaten 3-0 by Aston Villa on Sunday night as Allardyce slipped to defeat on his first game in charge at The Hawthorns.

The former England manager has taken charge of seven Premier League club prior to his appointment at West Brom and has never been relegated.

Robinson believes Allardyce is the only man who can guarantee the newly-promoted side safety this season.

“Knowing Sam and knowing what he is like, they will get them facing the right way,” he told Football Insider.

“They will be organised and will not concede many goals but it was too short of a turnaround for them to put in a performance against Aston Villa.

“I have no doubt whatsoever that he will keep them up this season even though, looking at the league, it is difficult to see who is going to go down.

“Sam’s man management skills are second to none. He will have that team approaching every game with the right mentality. He is better in that respect than anyone I have ever worked with. Players will give him that extra one or two per cent.

“He has his critics but if you have the best interests of your football club at heart then there is only one man who will keep you in the Premier League and that’s Sam.”
