Celtic firmly in the bookies running to sign PL hotshot, he would be a brilliant signing

By Richard Parks

Celtic are firmly in the running to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings in the January transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the Scottish giants at 10/1 on Friday afternoon to land the forward, 25, before 3 February of next year.

Leeds United are the current favourites to land Ings, ahead in the betting of Premier League duo Newcastle United and Southampton (both 6/1), as well as a string of top-flight and Championship clubs priced at 8/1.

Celtic are priced the same as big-spending Everton, with both clubs at 10/1.

The one-time England international was reported last week to be a firm target of a number of English clubs after struggling for game time at Liverpool following two serious knee injuries.

Football Insider verdict:

Ings would be a brilliant loan signing for Celtic in the winter window. He would provide some impetus for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the second half of the season as well as a proven forward option to complement Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths, who have both struggled with injury this season. The fixtures are coming thick and fast for the Hoops and that will continue if they are in European competition in the new year and are defending their domestic treble. Crucially, Ings would not be cup-tied as he was omitted from Liverpool’s Champions League squad. If the sums could be worked out and Ings is keen, he could make a major impact in the second half of the season. The striker is contracted to Liverpool until 2020 and has said he does not want to quit, but a loan deal would give him regular game time and enable him to reignite his career.

In other Celtic transfer news, the club are joint favourites to sign a left-footed midfield creator who has demolished the Hoops in the past.
