Leeds United have been installed as clear favourites to sign Ross McCormack from Aston Villa before the January transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
SkyBet have priced the Whites at 2/1 to seal a last-ditch swoop for McCormack, 31, with the window due to close in just several days’ time.
McCormack has been on loan at Australian A-League side Melbourne City and the Aussie club have been installed as 9/1 second-favourites to sign the 13-times Scotland international.
Nottingham Forest (16/1) and Rangers (25/1) are also in the running to sign up their former forward, but they appear to be well out of contention compared to Leeds.
McCormack has been in fine form while on loan at Melbourne, scoring 14 goals in 17 A-League appearances.
Press Association journalist Simon Peach claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that McCormack was jetting back into the UK in order to spend time with his family and hold talks with Aston Villa.
It is understood that Melbourne would like him to return Down Under, but would face an “uphill battle” if they were to win the race for his signature.

The Sun [print edition, January 23] has previously reported that Leeds were ready to make a move for their former striker, who left them in 2014 after four years of service which saw him score 58 goals in 157 appearances.
