David Unsworth is still in the running to become Everton manager

By Danny Wright

David Unsworth is the new favourite to become the next Everton manager, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

SkyBet have made the Toffees’ current caretaker manager Unsworth, 44, their new 1/2 favourite to be handed the job on a permanent basis.

Sam Allardyce had been leading the odds for some time but is now priced at 5/2 while Sean Dyche (10/1) and Marco Silva (12/1) are also up there.

On Wednesday, Unsworth was second-favourite (11/8) with SkyBet with Allardyce being one of the leading names ever since Ronald Koeman was sacked two weeks ago.

The Sun had reported that the former England boss was on the verge of becoming the next Everton manager for the rest of the season with him agreeing a deal worth £100,000-a-week.

However on Thursday, ‘Big Sam’ revealed that he had not been in any talks with the Toffees and dismissed the Sun’s report as being “complete and utter nonsense” that should be totally ignored.

That revelation is appeared to have been what has sparked a shift in the odds and with Silva and Dyche both employed, it seems that the Toffees are stuck with having to hand Unsworth the permanent role.

The rookie coach has been in charge of the Under-23s squad in recent season and since his promotion to first-team affairs he has won just one of four games – losing the other three.

In other Everton news, Steve Round has claimed that this manager will want to make the Toffees a top four Premier League club.
