Shanghai SIPG’s highly-rated manager Andre Villas-Boas is the new third favourite to become the next Everton boss, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
SkyBet now have Villas-Boas, 40, priced at 11/2 to be the permanent replacement to Ronald Koeman in the Goodison Park hotseat, capping what has been a remarkable slash in the odds on Sunday as in the morning he was fifth favourite at 8/1.
Republic of Ireland’s Martin O’Neill (8/11) remains the favourite while Watford’s Marco Silva (5/1) is second, even though it was widely reported this week that Everton had ended their pursuit of the Portuguese boss.
It now seems that another Portuguese manager is fancied by the Toffees, if the odds are anything to go by, with Villas-Boas’ price crashing down on Sunday despite never really being seen as in the running up until now.
The 40-year-old has been in charge of ultra-rich Chinese side Shanghai SIPG since November 2016 after replacing Sven Goran Eriksson in charge of the club.
In his first full season in East Asia, the former Chelsea and Tottenham boss led the East China club to a second-placed finish.
With the influx of money into the Chinese Super League, Villas-Boas is the manager of the likes of Brazil internationals Hulk and Oscar and ex-Portugal international Ricardo Carvalho.
In other Everton news, Ian Wright has delivered a damning verdict on this Toffees senior man.
