Tottenham have been installed joint favourites with Everton to sign Newcastle United star Jonjo Shelvey in January, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
BetVictor have both Spurs and Everton priced at 6/1 to seal a January swoop to sign Shelvey, 25, by the time the upcoming transfer window slams shut.
West Ham (8/1) and Southampton (10/1) are also thought to be in the running to sign the six-times England international.
Shelvey has been a mainstay of Newcastle’s first-team this season so manager Rafa Benitez may not be willing to let the ex-Liverpool midfielder leave on a cheap deal.
He has made 14 appearances in the Premier League and made 10 starts, but there have been worries about his discipline.
On the opening day of the season, the ex-Swansea playmaker was shown a straight red card for stamping on Tottenham’s Dele Alli which resulted in a three-game ban.
The 2016/17 Championship title winner has also recently been sidelined with suspension for picking up his second red card of the season against Everton.
Funnily, the teams he has been sent off against are now favourites to sign him in January.
Everton are likely to have a busy January as Sam Allardyce may want to improve on some of the under-performing players that was bought by Ronald Koeman in the summer.
Tottenham on the other hand already have a great deal of top midfield options and are widely reported to be on the trail of Everton’s Ross Barkley.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are in the hunt for this £22million-valued Brazilian attacker dubbed as being the next Neymar.
