Betting update: Leeds installed strong favourites to sign 28-year-old, Newcastle in running
By Harvey Byrne
Leeds are strong favourites to re-sign midfielder Jonny Howson in the summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Team Talk claimed on Wednesday afternoon that the Yorkshire giants were preparing a sensational £4million bid to bring the 28-year-old midfielder back to Elland Road.
This has since led to Ladbrokes pricing the Yorkshire giants at just 6/4 favourites to sign Howson from Norwich in the summer.
Sheffield Wednesday are the closest priced club to the Whites at 4/1, while Newcastle are also credited with being in the running as they stand at odds of 5/1.
Howson is a product of the famous Leeds academy, making his debut for the club all the way back in 2006.

He went on to star in 219 encounters for the club, returning 27 goals while also providing 22 himself across a six-year period before completing a move to current club Norwich in January 2012.
The Canaries are now clearing out their squad in an act to reduce their wage bill and they have already let a number of their senior players leave this summer.
Howson could now be the next out of the door, but he is still a key player for Norwich, playing 38 times in the league, returning six goals and eight assists this season.
He would certainly be a solid midfield signing for either of Leeds or Newcastle if the bookies’ odds are correct and while the Whites can tempt him with a move to a club he knows, the Magpies now have the lure of Premier League football.
In other Leeds transfer news, Michael Bridges has revealed he told the Whites to sign this Premier League ace three years a go.
