Rangers and Celtic are the joint second favourites to sign Brighton forward Jamie Murphy before the end of the January transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
BetVictor have the two Old Firm rivals priced at 6/1 to land Murphy, 28, while high-flying English Championship side Sheffield United are 4/1 favourites to complete a swoop for the ex-Motherwell ace.
Sunderland (6/1) and Fulham (8/1) are also seen to be in the running to snap up the Premier League attacker before the end of the winter transfer window.
Murphy has struggled to earn first-team football at Brighton ever since the south-coast club was promoted to the Premier League as Championship runners-up last term.
He has made just five appearances across all competitions so far this season, starting just once in England’s top-flight.
The former Scotland Under-21 international has bags of experience under his belt from spells with Motherwell and Sheffield United, and it seems that a return to Bramall Lane is most likely for the wide-forward, who can also play as a striker, in the winter.
Brighton are performing well in their debut season in the Premier League without having to call upon Murphy for his services.
Chris Hughton’s side are currently ninth in the table, well clear of the relegation zone after being one of the favourites for the drop before the campaign kicked off in August.
In other Rangers news, a stunning £6million deal has been tabled for a manager wanted by the Light Blues.
