West Ham have been made strong favourites to complete the signing of Man City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes.
Ladbrokes have priced the Hammers at a strong 5/4 to sign the 20-year-old forward, who has scored seven goals in all competitions for City during 28 league and cup encounters.
Slaven Bilic’s side are at slightly weaker odds of 13/8 to complete the signing in the upcoming summer transfer window, while Liverpool are priced at 5/1 to be Iheanacho’s next club.
Everton are also in the running to sign Iheanacho with a price of 11/2, with Stoke, Southampton and Tottenham credited with a distant price.
Iheanacho has struggled to get himself involved in Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans on a regular basis this term, with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus being preferred.
With a contract at the Etihad until the summer of 2021, City are in no rush to sell their up-and-coming star, although The Sun has reported that they will look to offload the striker to fund a summer bid for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
Football Insider verdict:
The Hammers need goals. Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri and Ashley Fletcher have all struggled to find the back of the net this season, while Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew have had to tend with multiple injuries. Bringing in a proven Premier League striker in Iheanacho would bolster Bilic’s side – he has scored 12 goals in 45 top-flight appearances with only 12 of those coming as starts. However, Iheanacho’s career has gone backwards this season with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and he would still represent an expensive gamble. Perhaps Bilic needs a more proven talent, such as Jermain Defoe.
