Marcelo Bielsa has spoken to Mauricio Pochettino to get the lowdown on potential Leeds United signing Juan Foyth, Football Insider can reveal.
The Championship leaders are monitoring the 22-year-old’s situation as he prepares to quit Tottenham this summer.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Bielsa has reached out to countryman and long-time ally Pochettino for information about their fellow Argentine.
The centre-back has been regularly linked with a loan move to Elland Road since Bielsa took over as manager two years ago.
Foyth is looking for a summer move but there is a suggestion the Spanish-speaking defender is keen to move to a La Liga club rather than stay in England.
He was signed by Tottenham in the summer of 2017 but has made just 32 appearances for the Londoners in three seasons.
Ex-Spurs boss Pochettino has always spoken warmly about Foyth but he has not made a single Premier League squad since the turn of the year.
Tellingly, Foyth was not named among the nine Spurs substitutes for Friday’s 1-1 draw against Man United, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen ahead of him in the pecking order as well as starting centre-backs Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.
Leeds are in the market for central defenders this summer as Ben White is due to head back to Brighton when his loan expires at the end of the season and Gaetano Berardi is out of contract.
They lost 2-0 at Cardiff City yesterday in their return to action with errors from Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper exploited superbly by the home side.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED the club have swooped for an Arsenal player earning less than a 10th of Mesut Ozil’s salary.
