Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has held one-on-one talks with Tyler Roberts calling for him to improve his form, Football Insider can reveal.
Roberts has made his first two starts for Leeds so far this season in the consecutive wins over Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers before the international break.
He scored the opener in the 2-0 triumph against QPR and also played 90 minutes in last Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Blackburn.
The 20-year-old was deployed in the key number 10 role in both games but Bielsa wants more from the attacker, who he regards as a rare talent.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Bielsa has held a private meeting with Roberts explaining to him he needs to be more consistent and add regular goals to his game to nail down a regular starting spot in the starting XI.
The Wales international has made seven appearances in total for United this term, but, up until the last two games, he was used as an impact player off the bench.
He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
Bielsa has warned him he needs to recapture that form if he wants to keep his place in the starting XU.
Roberts has endured a stop-start time to his career at Leeds due to injuries since his arrival from West Brom in January 2018 for a fee rising to £4million.
