Sources: Bielsa green lights Leeds swoop for player he regards as 'ideal fit' for his team

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Marcelo Bielsa has given the green light for Leeds United to make a summer swoop for Reading midfielder John Swift regardless of whether his team secure promotion, Football Insider understands.

United are closely monitoring the 23-year-old as they look to sign a central midfielder this summer who can compete with the likes of Adam Forshaw, Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich for a place in the side.

A club source has told Football Insider that Bielsa has been impressed by what he has seen of Swift, both in person and through footage compiled by the club’s recruitment team.

The Argentine manager regards the former England Under-21 international as a player capable of making the step up to the Premier League and who would be an “ideal fit” in his free-flowing team.

Reading are braced for a battle to hang on Swift following a season that has failed to live up to expectations.
