Kalvin Phillips’ season-ending injury is a “big kick in the teeth” for Leeds United as they head into the final games of the season, according to Alex Bruce.
The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits there is no one who deserves to be on the pitch as and when the Whites are promoted than the 24-year-old academy product.
Leeds confirmed on Tuesday that the midfielder will miss the remainder of the season after picking up a knee injury against Swansea City on Sunday.

Bruce admits he is gutted to see Phillips ruled out of the club’s final three games but insists the Leeds star will be focused on getting himself prepared for top-flight football next season.
Bruce told Football Insider: “It’s bitterly disappointing for him.
“If anyone deserves to be on the pitch when Leeds will be hoping they’re lifting the Championship title, he deserves it because he’s been a talisman for the team for the last few years.
“He’s an excellent player, it’s a big kick in the teeth for him but listen, he’s just got to knuckle down, get himself fit for next season and hope it’ll be in the Premier League so I’m sure he’s got one eye on that.”
Phillips has played 37 times in the Championship for Leeds this season, with two goals and two assists to his name.
He has a total of 181 appearances under his belt for his boyhood club.
