Bilic speaks out about selection headache ahead of Tottenham clash

By Russell Edge

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has said that the performance of his players against Bolton has given him a headache ahead of their clash with Tottenham.

The Hammers easily overcame Bolton 3-0 on Tuesday in the League Cup, while Spurs themselves scraped a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Championship side Barnsley.

However, both sides made a whole host of changes to their starting line ups, with Bilic introducing 10 new faces to the first team fold, Mauricio Pochettino choosing to swap out six.

As a result of their fine performance, the Serbian manager says that he has more questions than answers when it comes to selecting his side for Saturday’s clash.

He told the club’s official website: “I said to the players before the game; ‘every one of you who thinks he deserves to be playing ahead of the guy who is playing, impress me and my staff – give us a headache with your performance’

“We are more positive after this performance from some of the players, we have more to choose from. It’s very good and we’re going to need it on Saturday, definitely.”

West Ham have endured a difficult start to the Premier League season and sit just above the drop zone in 17th place with four points.

Their one win came at home to Huddersfield, while their last outing saw them see out a dour 0-0 draw with West Brom.

Spurs also played out a disappointing stalemate in their last league game, with a resolute Swansea defence seeing off the attacking threat of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min.

They have endured a mixed campaign so far, with victories over Newcastle and Everton marred by defeat to Chelsea and disappointing home draws against Burnley and the Swans.

In other Tottenham news, the club face a battle with Liverpool to secure the signing of a German prodigy.
