Birmingham City make contact with Thomas Frank as they ‘go all out’ to agree deal

Birmingham City have made contact with Thomas Frank in an attempt to lure him to the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship side are going all out to lure the 52-year-old as they believe he has the experience and attributes to spearhead their return to the Premier League and keep them there.

Birmingham are looking to copy Brentford’s model of signing players based on data and algorithms, which was such huge success when Frank managed the club during his lengthy reign.

This comes amid growing pressure on Chris Davies after failing to guide the club to the play-offs.

Frank has been out of work since he was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in February after a terrible reign.

Now, with Birmingham eyeing Premier League promotion, they hope Frank can help them achieve this.

Can Birmingham win the race for Thomas Frank?

Despite Frank’s awful reign at Tottenham, he is still well-regarded in the footballing world.

His work for Brentford has not been forgotten after he turned a mid-table Championship side into an established Premier League outfit on a limited budget.

As a result, he has been linked to numerous positions ahead of the summer, including Crystal Palace and Celtic, who are both in need of a new manager.

With Birmingham being in the Championship, they are obviously at an immediate disadvantage compared to the other clubs.

However, given the club’s lofty ambitions, it is clearly not out of the question that he moves to St Andrews in the summer.

What is Thomas Frank’s record in the Championship?

While it might have been a long time ago, Frank spent nearly three years in the Championship before he guided the Bees to Premier League promotion.

During his time in the second tier, he boasts a wonderful record, finishing third twice in his two full seasons in the division.

Overall, he managed 126 games in the Championship, winning 61, drawing 31 and losing 34.

As a result, he has a 48.4 per cent win rate in the league, and averaged 1.70 points per game.

Therefore, while he may not have managed in the Championship for a long time, he is no doubt an expert.

However, it remains to be seen if he would be able to repeat this with the Blues if he gets the job.
