Aaron Ramsdale was "lucky" to avoid a red card as Arsenal beat West Ham 2-1 on Sunday (1 May), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Ramsdale's challenge on Jarrod Bowen was "silly" and he might have done it because he was "bored".

In the second half, the 23-year-old came steaming out of his penalty area and launched into a challenge on Bowen as he was played in behind the Arsenal defence.

Mike Dean decided to book the West Ham winger for simulation as Ramsdale made no contact with him.

However, Agbonlahor has suggested that was more by accident than design and the Arsenal stopper can count himself lucky that he did not see red.

A sending off would have seen him banned for Arsenal's next three Premier League games with Leeds United, Tottenham and Newcastle United.

"It was lucky," Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"But even if he made contact, it might have only been a yellow card because there were Arsenal players covering him. It was clumsy from Ramsdale.

"If he caught him high maybe it would have been a red card. It was a bit silly from Ramsdale.

"Sometimes goalkeepers get bored in games. They come running out when they don't really need to. They get worried."

Ramsdale has kept 12 clean sheets in 30 Premier League games in his debut season for Arsenal.

However, he has been criticised for his off-the-ball theatrics, including his reaction to Bruno Fernandes missing a penalty against him last month (23 April).
