Brands tipped to be pushing 'heavily' to sign 'massive talent' Dumfries for Everton - ex-manager

Alex McLeish has tipped Marcel Brands to be pushing “heavily” to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries for Everton.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was blown away by the right-back’s athletic displays for the Netherlands at the Euros.

As reported by Dutch publication Voetbal International (June 16th), Everton and Inter Milan are set to battle to sign the 25-year-old.

Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey shared the right-back duties at Everton during the 2020/21 campaign.

Dumfries still has two years left on his contract at PSV but is said to be looking to move this summer.

The Toffees’ director of football, Marcel Brands, also arrived at Goodison Park from PSV back in 2018.

As such, McLeish suggested he would be pulling on his links in the Netherlands to get Dumfries to Merseyside.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Big, athletic player.

“Every time I watched that first game he was always in the box, coming in at the back post.

“Eventually he got a goal. I thought (he’s an) absolute massive talent in terms of athletic (ability). Good in the air as well.

“Another Dutch talent unearthed. Marcel will be heavily into that one.

“Coleman was an exciting player for Everton for many, many years.”

Dumfries, who has 22 caps under his belt for the Netherlands, has scored twice and contributed an assist in three appearances at the Euros.

He has played 124 times for PSV, with 16 goals and 20 assists under his belt.
