Brendan Rodgers sweating on fitness of midfielder after Celtic win v Kilmarnock

By Danny Wright

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is sweating over the fitness of Eboue Kouassi after he picked up an injury in the 5-0 hammering of Kilmarnock on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old was forced out of the action at Celtic Park in the 40th minute with what looked to be like a painful injury.

Rodgers has now confirmed that Kouassi jarred his knee in the League Cup victory, and that he is now awaiting the results of a scan to determine the damage.

“Only downside of tonight. We will just assess him overnight and see what he’s like over the coming days,” said the Celtic manager, as quoted by the Scottish champions’ official Twitter account on Tuesday night.

“He jarred his knee a little bit so we will wait and see what the scan shows on that. Otherwise a really positive night for us.”

Celtic were already three goals ahead of visitors Kilmarnock by the time Kouassi was taken off just before half-time.

Leigh Griffiths bagged a first-half brace while youngster Anthony Ralston scored his first goal in the Hoops senior side.

Kieran Tierney, who wore the captain’s armband for the League Cup fixture, extended the lead in the 65th minute before Stuart Armstrong found the net to give the Bhoys a resounding 5-0 victory.

Kouassi isn’t seen as one of the key players at Parkhead, but it would still be a blow for Rodgers to have the number of fit midfielders reduced at such an early stage of the season.

The Ivorian midfielder signed for the Glasgow giants last January and has since made six appearances across all competitions.

In other Celtic news, this Premier League attacker has said that he wants to return to Parkhead.
