Brighton are plotting a summer swoop for Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims the newly promoted side’s scouting network has discussed the 25-year-old’s talents and current situation at Celtic as they look to bolster their squad.
Chris Hughton’s side have been alerted to the availability of Armstrong this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.
The report claims that no official move has been made yet and that the Hoops are confident of holding onto the Scottish midfielder.
Discussions between Armstrong’s representatives and the club are ongoing as they look to secure a contract extension.
Both parties are said to be ‘relaxed’ about the issue, with Celtic still focused on securing the treble.
Armstrong has made 28 Scottish Premiership appearances this term, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists.
The 25-year-old also did enough to win his first Scottish cap.
Football Insider verdict
There is no doubt that Brighton will have to strengthen their squad ahead of a season in the Premier League and Armstrong could be an astute signing. The classy midfielder has been in fine form this season, having earned his first international cap and represented Celtic in the Champions League group stages. As he enters the final year of his contract this summer he could also be available for a cut-price deal as the Bhoys could aim to get something for him if he wants out. However after such a fine season Brendan Rodgers will surely fight hard to hold onto his man and the Scottish champions are said to be confident about securing a contract extension for their star player.
In other Celtic transfer news, this Celtic target will leave for European giants this week according to reports.
