Exclusive: Campbell in awe of 'Brilliant' Arsenal player usually only seen in Cup

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Arsenal defender Cedric Soares after he starred in a 3-0 win over Newcastle United.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that the 29-year-old was “brilliant” in both an attacking and defensive sense last night.

Cedric produced an eye-catching display at the Emirates in what was his first Premier League start this season – his only other league appearance in 2019/20 came as a late substitute against his former club Southampton last month.

The Portugal international was a constant threat down the right flank and assisted Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Arsenal’s third.

The right-back also made 11 ball recoveries in the win, only Granit Xhaka (14) made more over the ninety minutes. (Wyscout)

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the full-back’s performance, Campbell said: “He was brilliant.

“Mikel Arteta is rotating, Bellerin drops to the bench and Cedric comes in and I thought he was one of our best players.

“He defended well and attacked well. He put some really dangerous balls into the box and picked out Aubameyang for his second. Fair play to him because he had to drive into the box to get it to Aubameyang.

“It was a really good performance by Cedric. He has shown what he can do now, we normally only see him in the cup games but he is a very capable, international player who can play as a right or left back. He has given Arteta a problem.”
