'Brilliant' - Exclusive: Hutton drops Villa dressing room reveal after post-League Cup chats

Alan Hutton has revealed that the Aston Villa dressing room are feeling positive about their relegation battle after defeat in the League Cup final.

The former Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor, believes that the togetherness shown by Dean Smith and his men could be the difference in their hunt for survival.

The Villans suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, Mbwanna Samatta’s goal not enough to turn things around after Sergio Aguero and Rodri had scored.

With Hutton still in touch with his former teammates, he has revealed there is plenty of belief that they can remain in the Premier League this season.

Asked if the dressing room were feeling confident in themselves after Sunday’s defeat, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, of course they are.

“I think at the back of your mind you always know it’s going to be a difficult game against Manchester City. Yes, it’s a one-off, it’s a cup final and anything can happen but you know it’s going to be difficult.

“Moving forward, there’s a lot of positives. You could see the togetherness after the game with Dean Smith, all of them in a huddle, that was brilliant. There’s a real bond between a lot of the players.

“I think that can be the difference between staying up and going down, the togetherness. They really need to use this as motivation.”

Villa currently sit 19th in the top-flight after results went against them over the weekend, with West Ham and Watford both winning to move into 16th and 17th respectively.

They are two points behind the Hammers, Hornets and 18th-placed Bournemouth with a game in hand.
